How to View Quiz Results in Simulation Reports
Quiz results show how participants performed on quizzes within a simulation. This guide explains how to access and understand quiz results in simulation reports.
Understanding Quiz Results
What Quiz Results Contain
Quiz results include:
- Overall Score: The percentage grade (e.g., 85%)
- Correct Count: Number of questions answered correctly
- Total Questions: Total number of questions in the quiz
- Question-by-Question Results: For each question:
- The question text
- The participant's answer
- The correct answer (when the participant got it wrong)
- Whether the answer was correct or incorrect
Where Quizzes Can Appear
Quizzes can appear in two places on the simulation's Activity steps timeline:
- Before the simulation: Quizzes completed before the simulation chat starts
- After the simulation: Quizzes completed after the chat ends, as part of the report flow
Viewing Individual Simulation Reports
Step 1: Access the Simulation Report
- As an instructor: Open the space, click Results on the simulation's card, go to the Participants tab, and click View Report on the run you want to review
- As a participant: Open History in the sidebar and open the run
Step 2: Find the Quizzes Tab
- Look for Tabs: The report will have multiple tabs (Feedback, Feedback Chat, Simulation Chat, etc.)
- Find "Quizzes" Tab: Look for the tab labeled "Quizzes"
- Click the Tab: Click on the Quizzes tab to view quiz results
Note: The Quizzes tab only appears if there are quiz results to display. If no quizzes were completed, the tab won't be visible. If the results can't be loaded, the tab says so and offers to try again.
Step 3: Review Quiz Results
When you open the Quizzes tab, you'll see the heading Quiz Results and one card per quiz.
Quiz Summary
Each card shows:
- Quiz Title: The name of the quiz
- Overall Grade: Large percentage score (e.g., "85%")
- Score Summary: "You got X out of Y questions correct"
Question-by-Question Results
Below the summary, under Question Review, you'll see each question:
- Question Text: The question as it appeared to the participant
- Your answer: What the participant selected
- Correct Answer: The correct answer(s), shown when the participant's answer was wrong
- Status Indicator: An icon showing whether the answer was correct or incorrect
Visual Indicators
- Green Checkmark (✓): Indicates a correct answer
- Red X (✗): Indicates an incorrect answer
- Highlighting: The correct answer is shown in green
Step 4: Navigate Between Quizzes
If multiple quizzes were completed:
- Scroll Down: Scroll through the page to see all quiz results
- Each Quiz is Separate: Each quiz appears in its own card with its own results
- Quiz Titles: Each quiz card shows the quiz title at the top
Understanding Quiz Result Details
Overall Score
The overall score is calculated as:
- Percentage: (Number of correct answers / Number of graded questions) × 100
- Graded Questions: Only questions that have a correct answer set are graded. A conditional question the participant never saw (left unanswered) is not counted
- Rounded: Displayed as a whole number or with one decimal place
- Example: 8 out of 10 questions correct = 80%
Question Results
For each question, you can see:
Single Choice Questions (Radio Buttons)
- Participant's Answer: The single option they selected
- Correct Answer: The correct option
- Match: Whether their selection matches the correct answer
Multiple Choice Questions (Checkboxes)
- Participant's Answers: All options they selected (shown as a list)
- Correct Answers: All correct options (shown as a list)
- Match: Whether their selections exactly match all correct answers
- Note: For multiple choice, all correct answers must be selected (and no incorrect ones) for it to be marked correct
Answer Formatting
- Text Answers: Displayed as typed text
- Choice Answers: Displayed as the option text (e.g., "Option A" or "Paris")
- Multiple Selections: Shown as a comma-separated list (e.g., "Option A, Option B, Option C")
Viewing Quiz Analytics
Accessing Quiz Analytics
- For one space: Open the space, click Results on the simulation's card, and open the Quiz Analytics tab
- Across every space that uses the simulation: In the Library, open the simulation card's ⋮ menu, choose View Report, and open the Quiz Analytics tab. This page also has a time period filter
What Analytics Show
Quiz analytics provide aggregated data:
- Summary Figures: Total Attempts, Unique Users, and Average Score, overall and for each quiz in the Quiz List
- Score Distribution: After you click View Details on a quiz, bar and pie charts show how scores are spread
- Question Performance: The Question Analysis table shows each question's Total Answers, Correct Answers, and Correct %
- Trends Over Time: Use the time period filter on the View Report page to compare periods
Using Analytics
- Identify Problem Areas: Find questions that many participants got wrong
- Track Improvement: Monitor if average scores improve over time
- Compare Quizzes: Compare performance across different quizzes
Tips for Reviewing Quiz Results
For Individual Reports
- Review All Questions: Don't just look at the score—review each question to understand what participants learned
- Check Patterns: Look for questions where many participants struggled
- Consider Context: Remember when the quiz was taken (before or after the simulation) when interpreting results
For Analytics
- Focus on Trends: Look for patterns across multiple participants
- Identify Weak Areas: Questions with low correct rates may need clarification or better instruction
- Review Answer Choices: If many participants get the same question wrong, check the individual reports to see which option they chose; it might be confusing or misleading
Troubleshooting
Quizzes Tab Not Appearing
If you don't see a Quizzes tab:
- Check for Completed Quizzes: The tab only appears if at least one quiz was completed
- Verify Quiz Configuration: Ensure the quiz step is on the Simulation's Activity steps timeline
- Refresh the Page: Try refreshing the report page
Missing Quiz Results
If quiz results seem incomplete:
- Check Completion Status: Verify that participants actually completed the quizzes
- Quiz Summary Display Mode: This setting on the quiz step (Thank You Only, Grade Only, Grade + Correct/Incorrect, Full Details) only controls what the participant sees when they finish the quiz. The report's Quizzes tab always shows full details
- Check Permissions: Ensure you have permission to view quiz results
Incorrect Scores
If scores seem wrong:
- Review Correct Answers: Verify that correct answers are properly marked in the quiz. A question with no correct answer set is not graded
- Check Question Types: Ensure questions are configured correctly (single vs. multiple choice)
- Review Answer Matching: For multiple choice, all correct answers must be selected
- Contact Support: If scores consistently seem incorrect, there may be a configuration issue
Best Practices
Reviewing Results
- Look Beyond the Score: The percentage is useful, but question-level details provide more insight
- Identify Learning Gaps: Questions with low correct rates indicate areas where participants need more support
- Consider Timing: Quiz results from before the simulation show baseline knowledge; results from after it show learning
Using Results to Improve
- Update Content: If many participants get a question wrong, consider updating the simulation content
- Clarify Questions: Ambiguous questions should be rewritten for clarity
- Adjust Difficulty: If all participants get all questions right (or wrong), the quiz may be too easy (or too hard)
Next Steps
After reviewing quiz results:
- Analyze Patterns: Look for common mistakes or areas of strength
- Update Simulations: Use insights to improve simulation content
- Refine Quizzes: Adjust questions based on how participants perform
- Share Insights: Discuss results with your team to improve the learning experience
