Set session timeouts for your organization
As an organization administrator, you can decide how long your members stay signed in to Cesura. Use a shorter time when your security policy requires it, or a longer one so a teacher is not signed out in the middle of a class.
The two settings
| Setting | What it controls | Allowed range | Platform default |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sign out after inactivity | How long a session lasts without any activity. | 5 to 720 minutes | 8 hours |
| Require sign-in again after | The longest a session can last, however active the person is. | 1 to 720 hours | 7 days |
An empty field shows Platform default and uses the default time. You can set one field and leave the other empty.
Set the timeouts
- In the sidebar, open Organization Management.
- Click Preferences. The page is titled Organization Preferences.
- In Sign out after inactivity, enter a number of minutes.
- In Require sign-in again after, enter a number of hours.
- Click Save.
To go back to the platform defaults, clear both fields and click Save.
Rules Cesura checks when you save
- Each value must be inside its allowed range. A field with a value outside it turns red, and Cesura refuses to save it.
- Require sign-in again after must be at least as long as Sign out after inactivity. A shorter maximum would end every session at sign-in.
When a change takes effect
A change applies to each person the next time they sign in or their session renews. Cesura does not sign anyone out when you save. Someone who is signed in keeps their current session until it renews. If you shorten Require sign-in again after, anyone who signed in longer ago than the new limit must sign in again when their session next renews.
Who can change these settings
Organization administrators can change them. Other members cannot. The settings apply to every member of your organization.
