Signing in, verifying your account & resetting your password

This article covers signing in, the email-verification step for new accounts, two-factor authentication, how long you stay signed in, and resetting your password.

Creating an account & verifying your email

New users sign up on the registration page (name, email, password and its confirmation, country, language, and accepting the Terms of Service and Privacy Policy). You must verify your email before you can sign in. Right after signing up, Cesura emails you a verification link — open it to activate your account.

After you sign up, the Verify your email page opens. The link in the email is valid for 24 hours. If the email hasn’t arrived:

  • Check your spam / junk folder.
  • Wait a few minutes — delivery can be delayed.
  • Make sure you typed your email correctly when signing up.
  • On the Verify your email page, enter your email and click Resend verification email to get a new link.

If it still doesn’t come through, contact Cesura support.

Signing in

Go to the login page and enter your email and password. You can also continue with Google or Microsoft if you signed up that way.

If you are an instructor who opens Cesura from your LMS signed in to your own account, your linked LMS accounts are listed under Linked LMS accounts on the Security tab of your profile, where you can unlink one with Remove link. See Setting up an LTI 1.3 integration with your LMS.

Signing in with Google

The Google button on the login and registration pages is Google’s own. Google shows it in the language you use Cesura in, and it can show the name of the Google account you are signed in to.

If your browser is already signed in to Google, Google may also show a One Tap prompt on the login page. Choose your account in the prompt to sign in with one click, or close it and use the button instead.

Two-factor authentication

If your account has two-factor authentication turned on, Cesura asks for a code after your password.

  1. Open your authenticator app.
  2. Type the code under Enter the authentication code from your app.
  3. Click Verify.

After more than 5 code attempts within 5 minutes, Cesura locks the code step for up to 5 minutes. The screen shows “Too many attempts. You can sign in again in …” with a countdown, and the code field is disabled until it ends. When the countdown reaches zero, the screen says “The lockout has ended. Go back and sign in again.” Click Back and sign in again from the start.

When your organization requires two-factor authentication

Your organization can require two-factor authentication for every member. If it does and you have not set it up yet, Cesura sends you to the Security tab of your profile with the message “Your organization requires two-factor authentication. Set it up now to continue using Cesura.” Click Enable MFA, scan the QR code with your authenticator app, enter the Verification Code and click Verify. Once it is set up, you can use Cesura as usual.

While your organization requires it, you cannot turn two-factor authentication off. The Security tab says “Your organization requires two-factor authentication, so it cannot be turned off.”

If you sign in through your organization's single sign-on (SSO), you still have to set up two-factor authentication, and your identity provider handles the second factor when you sign in through SSO.

For administrators: see Require two-factor authentication for all members.

How long you stay signed in

By default, Cesura signs you out after 8 hours without activity. Even if you stay active, you must sign in again at least every 7 days.

Your organization can set shorter or longer times, so your limits may differ. See Set session timeouts for your organization.

Resetting your password

  1. On the login page, click Forgot Password?
  2. Enter your email and click Send Reset Link.
  3. Open the link in the email and set a new password.

Your password must be at least 12 characters and must not be a password that has appeared in a known data breach.

"I can’t sign in"

  • Email not verified. If you just signed up, open the verification link in your email first, or request a new one with Resend verification email.
  • Wrong account. If you have more than one email, sign in with the one you registered.
  • Forgot your password. Use the reset steps above.
  • Signed up with Google or Microsoft. Use the same Google or Microsoft button instead of an email and password.
  • Locked out after too many codes. Wait for the countdown to end, then click Back and sign in again.
  • Signed out unexpectedly. Your session ended after a period without activity, or reached its maximum length. Sign in again.
