Run a live session with the Live Dashboard
The Live Dashboard is your control panel for running a simulation with a group in real time — ideal for a classroom, workshop, or training session. It shows a big join code and QR for participants, then tracks everyone's progress live as they take part.
Before you start: turn your simulation into a Space
A live session runs through a Space — the workspace that holds your simulation (as an activity) and tracks participants’ runs in real time. If your simulation isn’t in a space yet, create one straight from the Library:
- Open the Library and find your simulation.
- Click Share on the simulation’s card (its tooltip reads Share with a group).
- Keep Create New selected, give the space a Name, and set the Access Level to Anonymous (no sign-in) so participants can join instantly by scanning the code.
- Click Create Space. Your simulation now lives in a space, ready to run live.
Already have a space? Click Share, choose Add to Existing, pick the space, and click Add to Space.
Open the Live Dashboard
- In your space, find the activity on the Content tab.
- Click the arrow next to the activity's Share button and choose Live dashboard. On a phone, or if you can't share the activity, it's in the card's ⋮ menu instead. (It's also available from the activity editor's header.)
- The dashboard opens full-screen — put it on the projector or shared screen.
💡 Set the space's Access Level to Anonymous (no sign-in) so participants can join instantly by scanning the code — no accounts to create. (See How sharing works.)
Step 1 — Let participants join
The dashboard opens on the join screen, showing:
- A large QR code participants scan with their phone, and
- The Access Code, if the activity requires one — participants enter it after opening the link.
As people join, the dashboard shows how many are currently running. You can hide or show the QR code as needed.
Step 2 — Monitor progress live
Once participants are underway, switch to the progress view to follow the session in real time:
- Headline stats — how many are running, how many have completed, total messages, and elapsed time.
- A view of each participant's progress as they work through the simulation.
- Live updates as people advance, with a celebration when someone finishes.
If your space uses groups, pick a group in the menu at the top left to follow only that group, or choose All participants to see everyone. A group view refreshes its figures every 5 seconds. A learner counts under their group even when they joined from the space’s own link or QR code.
When to use the Live Dashboard vs. a plain link
- Live Dashboard — everyone takes part together at the same time and you want to watch progress on screen (a facilitated, in-the-room session).
- Link & QR code — people take part on their own schedule; you just need to hand out access. See Share a simulation with a link & QR code.
Troubleshooting
| Symptom | Likely cause & fix |
|---|---|
| Participants are asked to sign in when they scan | The space requires accounts. Set the access level to Anonymous (no sign-in) for an open live session. |
| No "Live dashboard" option on the Share button | The Live dashboard needs permission to view the activity's results, and isn't available in testing spaces. On a phone, or if you can't share the activity, look in the card's ⋮ menu instead. Otherwise ask a space admin for access. |
| The join code/QR isn't scanning | Increase screen brightness and size, or send participants the link from the activity's Share dialog instead. |
