Share a simulation with a link & QR code

The quickest way to share a single activity is with a participant link or a QR code. Anyone you give it to can open the activity in their browser — whether they need to sign in first depends on the space's access level (see How sharing works).

Before you share: turn your simulation into a Space

Sharing works through a Space — the workspace that holds your simulation (as an activity) and collects participants’ runs and results. If your simulation isn’t in a space yet, create one straight from the Library:

  1. Open the Library and find your simulation.
  2. Click the Share with a group icon on the simulation’s card.
  3. Keep Create New selected, give the space a Name, and choose an Access Level — for an open link or QR code, pick Anonymous (no sign-in).
  4. Click Create Space. Cesura opens your new space, ready to share.

Already have a space? Open Share with a group and choose Add to Existing instead.

Open the Share dialog

  1. In your space, find the activity on the Content tab.
  2. Click the activity's Share button (also available from inside the activity editor).

The Share activity dialog opens with the participant link, a QR code, and an optional access code.

No link or QR code? Activities in a space with the LMS — SCORM / LTI 1.3 access level have none. The dialog shows "This activity requires LMS access. Participants must access it through your Learning Management System. Direct link sharing is disabled." Learners open these activities from your LMS. An activity set to Safe Exam Browser only shows a Safe Exam Browser link instead of the participant link (see Run an exam in Safe Exam Browser).

Copy the participant link

  1. Under Participant link, click Copy link (you'll see Copied!).
  2. Paste it into an email, chat message, or your LMS.

The link looks like https://app.cesura.ai/sim/<activity-id>. When a learner opens it, they go straight into the activity (or are asked to sign in first, depending on the access level).

💡 If your organization uses Groups, you can generate a group-specific link from the dialog so runs are attributed to the right cohort.

Share the QR code

  1. In the QR Code section, click Download QR Code to save it as an image.
  2. Add it to a slide, poster, or handout — learners scan it with their phone camera to open the activity.

You can also display the QR code on a projector or screen so a room full of people can join at once.

Optional: require an access code

To stop the link from being opened by just anyone, turn on Require access code in the Share dialog. Participants must then enter the code before they can start. Share the code separately from the link (for example, say it out loud in class) — it's shown in the dialog under Access Code.

Optional: tag the link with your own participant ID

If you already have an ID for each person — a participant number, a student ID — you can add it to the link and get it back in the results export, without a form and without sign-in. Give each person their own copy of the link with ?uid= on the end:

https://app.cesura.ai/sim/<activity-id>?uid=P-1042

The value is saved with that run and appears as its own column in the Excel export, next to the run’s Status — so you can tell who finished. Use an opaque code, never a name or an email address: URLs are visible to the participant and end up in browser history and server logs. Other ways to share this activity

  • Embed it in a web page — see Embed a simulation in a web page.
  • Run it live with a join code and real-time monitoring — see Run a live session with the Live Dashboard.
  • Through your LMS — see the LTI 1.3 and SCORM articles.

Troubleshooting

Symptom Likely cause & fix
Learners are asked to sign in unexpectedly The space's access level requires it. For open access, set the space to Anonymous (no sign-in) (see How sharing works).
"This link is invalid or has been revoked" The link or activity may have been disabled, or an access code is required. Re-open the Share dialog to check the current link and settings.
The Share dialog shows no participant link or QR code The space uses the LMS — SCORM / LTI 1.3 access level, so learners must launch from your LMS. To share by link, move the activity to a space with another access level.
A learner sees LMS Launch Required They opened a direct link to an activity in an LMS space. Send them to the activity in your LMS instead.
Participants can't get past the access-code screen Make sure you've given them the exact code shown under Access Code in the Share dialog.
